The top health concern among the unsheltered in our city? Hospitalizations due to foot-related issues: infected wounds, osteomyelitis & chronic pain. RUNurse is partnering with Christian Action Ministry for a shoe drive! because something as simple as a good pair of shoes can prevent suffering and even save lives.!
RUNurse is stepping up to make a difference! We're collecting gently used or new sports shoes to provide comfort and protection for those in need in San Antonio. Your donation isn’t just a pair of shoes: it’s hope, dignity, and mobility.

The big day may have come and gone, but keep in touch as we’re always up to something new and exciting.
Last month, RUNurse team members came together for a heartwarming blanket drive, collecting dozens of warm, cozy, durable and eco-friendly blankets just in time to help those in need before the arctic freeze swept through San Antonio. The initiative, fueled by the group’s compassion and community spirit, saw an outpouring of donations from nurses, friends, and local supporters. A week before temperatures plummeted, the team turned-over the blankets to unsheltered individuals through the Christian Assistance Ministry, offering not just warmth, but also a sense of care and connection during the harsh winter weather. The success of the drive reminded everyone that RUNurse is about more than running, as it’s about showing up for the community, spreading kindness, and making a real difference, one thoughtful gesture at a time.
Several RUNurse members hit the chilly streets for the LAST San Antonio Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series, with some first-timers tackling the 10K and others conquering the half marathon, all while soaking in the city’s vibrant energy. The course wound through historic neighborhoods and lively downtown streets, with live bands and enthusiastic spectators keeping the momentum high. For many, it was more than just a race, it was a celebration of months of training, early morning runs, and the unwavering support of their fellow RUNurse teammates. The post-race festival, filled with music and well-earned medals, was a perfect way to cap off the achievement, reminding everyone that whether running 6.2 or 13.1 miles, the journey is always more meaningful when shared with a strong, encouraging community. As the Rock ‘n’ Roll chapter closes, the team is already buzzing with excitement and gearing up for the inaugural San Antonio Marathon coming up December next year 2025, ready to create new memories and conquer even greater distances together!
On Thanksgiving morning, several RUNurse members laced up their sneakers and hit the pavement for the annual Turkey Trot 5K, blending fitness and festivity in true club spirit. The crisp cold air and cheerful crowds made for the perfect backdrop as runners of all paces took on the course, some chasing PRs and others simply soaking in the holiday vibes. Families and friends cheered from the sidelines, adding warmth to the chilly start, while the scent of pumpkin pie and roasted turkey seemed to linger in the distance. For RUNurse, it wasn’t just about burning calories before the feast, it was a celebration of health, gratitude, and the joy of running together, reinforcing the club’s inclusive, supportive vibe that welcomes every stride and makes every finish line feel like a shared victory for everyone.
Some of our RUNurse members took their passion for running and mental grit to the next level by conquering the Spartan Race Super, a grueling 10K packed with over 25 challenging obstacles. Despite the sand, sweat, and burning muscles, they pushed through every wall climb, rope ascent, and barbed wire crawl with determination and heart. The experience did not only test their physical endurance but also strengthened their camaraderie, reflecting the club's spirit of resilience and mutual support. Crossing the finish line wasn’t just a victory, it was a testament to their commitment to both fitness and self-trust, proving that RUNurse Club is about more than just running; it’s about overcoming obstacles, on and off the course.
The More Than Pink Walk is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research, support, and advocacy. Organized by Susan G. Komen, the walk brings together communities across the nation, encouraging people to walk in solidarity with those affected by breast cancer. Participants, including survivors, families, and supporters, walk to honor loved ones, celebrate survivors, and fund critical research that aims to end breast cancer. Beyond just a walk, the event fosters a sense of unity and hope, while also providing resources and education about prevention, detection, and treatment options. The More Than Pink Walk underscores the movement’s commitment to not only increasing survival rates but also to creating a world without breast cancer. It serves as a reminder of the collective effort needed to fight breast cancer and the importance of hope, care, and community.
The AHA Heart & Stroke 5K is an annual fundraising event organized by the American Heart Association (AHA) to raise awareness about heart disease and stroke, as well as to support vital research, education, and advocacy efforts. Participants of all ages come together to run, walk, or jog in the event, with the goal of promoting heart health and encouraging a heart-healthy lifestyle. The 5K serves not only as a fun and family-friendly activity but also as a powerful reminder of the importance of preventing heart disease and stroke, which remain the leading causes of death worldwide. Funds raised through the event go directly to the AHA’s mission to advance scientific research, improve healthcare access, and reduce the impact of cardiovascular disease. The AHA Heart & Stroke 5K helps create a sense of community, inspiring individuals to take action toward better health while honoring those affected by heart disease and stroke. The San Antonio event overall raised a total of more than $700,000 for this benevolent cause.
The RUNurse Squad recently participated in the WWP's Carry Forward 5K last October 5th, a remarkable event that transcends the typical race experience. As a community of nurses dedicated to both physical fitness and the well-being of others, our involvement in this event highlighted our commitment to service, resilience, and camaraderie—not just among ourselves, but also with the injured combat veterans that we honor. The Carry Forward 5K is more than just a race; it’s an opportunity to support veterans and raise awareness for the challenges they face after service. By participating, we not only pushed our physical limits but also embraced a shared mission: to honor the sacrifices made by those who have served our country. For nurses, particularly those in critical care, the connection to the mission resonates deeply to us. We understand the importance of supporting our heroes, whether it's through direct care or community initiatives. Six of our club members also proudly finished their very first 5K. RUNurse Club also raised more than $700 making the team rank 17th out of 160+ participating teams.
In an inspiring display of dedication and resilience, Nurse Sophia Hall (the co-founder of the RUNurse Club) recently clinched 1ST PLACE for her Age Group at the Head For The Cure 5K, a race dedicated to raising awareness and funds for brain cancer research, held last September 28th. This participation by our members not only highlights the commitment of our club to promoting health and wellness but also emphasizes the power of community support in overcoming challenges. The Head For The Cure 5K brings together runners, survivors, and supporters, all united by a common goal: to fight against brain cancer. Proceeds from the race went towards various brain cancer initiatives, including research grants and local patient support programs. RUNurse Club participates in various local charity events on a monthly basis. Congratulations to Sophia for leading the way with such passion!
